Beachy Boho Free People

Carolina Santos Read

Hi there!

This is the last of my worn in Mexico while on Spring Break resort series, brought to you by this lovely Free People top, a new Poshmark score as well as the gold Jack Rogers wedges I styled it with. I also finished the look with an oldie but goodie pair of H&M lacy shorts.

Billowy boho tops like these as well as metallics and lace are super on trend for Spring, but frankly will never go out of style either. I love how this look can also transition effortless from day into night and has a beachy effortless chic to it.

Have you checked out PoshMark to either re-sell gently worn or new clothing and accessories or to buy? I absolutely love it! I recently attended the "PoshNation" fest in New York where I met the CEO and PR team who are lovely and fellow poshers. It's a great community and a lot of fun not to mention an easy way to resell and downsize you closet to make room for new fashion. Find me on there as "PoshLina7."

El Voyage Spring Scarf

Carolina Santos Read

Hi there!

Continuing with the resort theme and general spring wardrobe when you're on the go, I wanted to highlight another wonderful brand I've been working with: El Voyage. Created by Yenifer Lam and Vicky Cohen they are a New York-based brand that highlights the gypsy in all of us. Made for utility and comfortable while traveling, this brand is pretty synonymous with my lifestyle.

I became acquainted with them this Spring at Fall 2017 fashion week's Nolcha showing and I'm so grateful I did! Check out this gorgeous textile scarf I was gifted. It matched my favorite St. Tropez Free People flowy top, and I wore it to travel to and from Mexico. Also in this look is my Louis Vuitton Speedy bag.

The scarf doubled up as a blanket in the plane and a serong on the beach. Versatile pieces like these are perfect for travel.

Check out some of their embroidered leather sachets, boots, and more scarves. They have great products.

Hi there!

I thought I would continue the resort trend since it's that time of year and as it heats up we inevitably start to imagine ourselves at the beach, right? Maybe it's just me? Hehe.

This Lilly Pulitzer tunic is perfect for throwing over your bathing suit or wearing with white pants and sandals to go out on the town. The pattern and color are resort-chic and lightweight for a sunny day and to pack for travel. I styled mine with Havaianas flip flops and a Vera Bradley madras beach tote as well as my Ray Ban sunglasses.

Enjoy fun in the sun or plan for your next trip with a beautiful versatile tunic! Just don't forget your sunscreen:)

Hi there!

I love Spring Break and resort wear. We can finally let our skin take in some sunlight and salt water and let our hair down a little. I was lucky enough to have traveled to Hawaii (and Mexico) recently and while in Hawaii I visited Big Island (Kailua Kona) and Oahu (Honolulu)! I had a blast and loved visiting two little boutiques: Island Sweetie in Honolulu and Sugar Momo in downtown Kona.

The first look featires a romper which is currently on sale from Island Sweetie in downtown Honolulu in the Waikiki beach neighborhood. The embroidery and beachy look are spot on trend and so much fun to wear as a beach cover-up or casual look for Spring and Summer. I styled mine with flip flops and baseball cap over my bathing suit for lounging around the resort by day.

The second look was from the cutest store in downtown Kona on Big Island called Sugar Momos. They featured crystals like my gorgeous amethyst necklace and other gypsy boho clothing pieces and home accessories. I wanted to take everything home with me! My floral kimono (currently on sale) is also from there, and my shorts are oldie but goodie H&M conscious collection as well as the tank. My silver sandals are from a Tibetan store in New York City. This adorable shop in Kona will be moving and expanding to next door to their current location, and the owner has the coolest story. Don't miss out on stopping by when you're in the area!

Stay tuned next week for more resort looks!

One morning after using the Rejuvenating Moisture Mist on dry bed head hair (3 day hair) that had no life to it before.

IMG_0279.JPG

My hair is naturally wavy (my Brazilian genes gave me that!) but it can get frizzy really easily like in the photo above. Sometimes I just want a more structured wave without it looking crunchy...

My waves were fuller here but I wasn't using Ecru yet and it was still a little frizzy. Photo by Graham Scott.

Hi there!

I am so happy Ecru New York and I became acquainted at Fashion Week. The team of women I met were so wonderful and I have now been able to try out the product I was sent and can tell you how much I really LOVE it!

The velvet air lipstick is amazing. It goes on smoothly and stays on, and can be shiny or matte depending on whether you swipe it with a finger after applying. The color I got, plumberry, you can see in the photos below is a gorgeous berry lip (hot on the runways for fall) and I just loved it. The runway lash amplifying mascara is one of the best mascaras I've ever used. It has a curved wand and the product makes your lashes long and voluminous and stays on, even when I sweat or go in water! People have been asking me if I have fake lashes and I tell them no, they are all real!

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

Now as for the hair products, if you take a look at the photos above you can see that the Curl Essentials Kit includes the hydrating shampoo, anti-frizz conditioner, defining styling potion and rejuvenating moisture mist. These products are silicone sulfate and paraben free (which is important to me) but they lather unlike other paraben-free shampoos and conditioners I've tried before. They are also color safe. I've yet to dye my hair but that is really good to know. They smell wonderful and the product works by leaving my hair smooth and tamed of frizz with volume and defined curl without looking greasy or crunchy. My waves and curl look natural but with definition. I am in LOVE with these products! Head to the Ecru New York site for yours!

With love,

Carolina

Hi there!

If you've been following along on my Instastories and posts or Snapchat you've seen my recent trip to Hawaii and I'm now embarking on a trip to Mexico with my parents and Francisco. As a frequent traveler, I have developed certain packing rituals and among them are travel products I don't board a plane without. I figured they were worth a share because I adore these products and I'm sure you will too!

First up is the Chanel travel sized perfumes. I've had Chance and Coco Mademoiselle, and with the little travel twist bottle holder it makes it easy to refill the travel sizes and always travel with the right size liquids if you're not checking a bag! I LOVE perfume, especially Chanel. I typically buy at Duty Free to save on tax too!

Next up is my Henri Bendel travel soy candle in the Beach scent. It smells lovely and is perfectly sized to be on the go and have a nice smelling hotel room! Their tops don't get stuck and are easy to throw in the suitcase.

I also love to travel with a Yankee Candle room spray. This one is a beachy scent called "Sun & Sand" which is so fresh and tropical, perfect for my back to back beach journeys. There are so many wonderful scents to choose from no matter what kind of adventure you're off on!

Speaking of sprays, I LOVE my Mario Badescu rosewater aloe and herbs face mist (see two posts ago!) and of course I love to have the travel sized one on hand with my beauty products. More on Mario later and some of the other skincare I love!

In addition to scents and things, I am a huge fan of my travel humidifier by Crane. It is small and easy to pack and you just add water (literally)! The customer service team for Crane is very friendly too. As a performer too when I'm not blogging, vocal health is really important to me (and not getting sick) and this humidifier allows the dry rooms to not bother my sinuses as I sleep. My room humidifier at home even has essential oils in it which makes the moisture mist even better! I got mine at a CVS but they are available on Amazon and many other retailers too!

Last but not least as a product rep for Volkswagen I have a passion for Vdubs and this adorable VW Bus travel speaker was a major score! It amplifies my music in a hotel room and looks so cute. It makes a bus honking sound when you turn it on or off and the headlights light up when it's on. It comes with a charger too.

I hope you enjoyed my travel products! I'm passionate about them as they make life on the road easier, more fun, and smell better!  I hope you're enjoying Spring Break if you are taking one this year 😊

Hi there!

Recently I was fortunate enough to be Francisco's date to his Paul Taylor Dance Company gala where we celebrated the opening of their annual season in Lincoln Center at the David Koch theater. The occasion was black tie and I love an opportunity to get dressed up.

I found this gorgeous Jarlo gown at Bloomingdales on sale for less than $100! The necklace, bracelet, earrings, and ring are gorgeous rainbow pyrite by Made in Earth collection. Thank you to the Made in Earth team for your help in styling my dress with your gorgeous jewelry! Rainbow pyrite was not in my post from our Made in Earth shoot. It's a memory enhancement gemstone and it's from Russia. I'm obsessed with the gold pink and green sparkly hues it emits, and it accented my gown perfectly. I also wore gold sparkly peep toe Christian Louboutin pumps which I'll show you in a photo below since my gown was long and didn't show them in the photos. Finally I topped off styling the ensemble with my gold python clutch from Coach.

I always recommend after New Years sales on gowns when you have an event to go to. I always do well!

Hi there!

I hope you're all enjoying a cozy day in with this snowy weather! It's days like these that remind me how much I love good skincare products. My faves lately are shown above: Mario Badescu facial spray with rose water herbs and aloe, Philosophy body scrub and Rodan + Fields lash boost serum.

Mario Badescu is my go-to European facial (and other treatments) skin spa. They are affordable and have been around forever. They are also a celebrity staple. This skin spray leaves your face moisturizer and hydrated ad gives you that little glow after applying your makeup. It smells great and boost your mood, and it's perfect to take on the plane when the dry air sucks the moisture from your skin. Your skin stays dewy and glowing with this spray! Stay tuned for a post coming soon with my favorite travel products. I of course have this in a travel size I never fly without.

Philosophy makes fabulous products and their sayings are always fun to read on the bottle too! This snow angel body scrub leaves you clean, smelling good, and rids your skin of dry skin so you can be soft and like new after the shower. Don't forget to pair if with your favorite moisturizer or skin oil.

I'm new to Rodan + Fields products but my friend and fellow performer Alison Solomon introduced me to the lash boost and eye cream recently and I LOVE these products! The lash boost is a serum applied with a brush to your lash line after cleansing and drying skin in the evening. You sleep with it and wash your face in the morning and the results appear quickly. My lashes grew a ton and I don't need to get eyelash extensions anymore. I never liked the maintenance or cost of them, and with this product with or without mascara, my lashes have the same long effect only they are mine and won't get damaged over time! For more products of theirs and to shop this one head to Alison Solomon's page!

Hi there!

Last weekend was freezing but I wanted to still look cute for brunch so I paired some Spring and Winter trends with warm but fun pieces together for a cozy yet stylish look.

My new black bell sleeve crop top with cross cross detail by Nectar Clothing is more of a spring top so I layered it with a black tank underneath to keep warm. I styled it with a pair of black pleather jeans from Zara and my new H&M silver ankle booties! They are a steal at under $50 and look just like DVF ones I saw on the runways on fashion week.

I also layered on my oldie but goodie fave Topshop faux fur turquoise coat, turquoise Free People beanie and skull scarf for extra warmth.

Stay warm while we wait for Spring to hit the NYC streets! Stay tuned for next week's gala post and my black tie look as well as Francisco's for Francisco's Lincoln Center gala for Paul Taylor Dance Company.

Hi there!

As I wrote about in last week's NYFW recap, I had the opportunity to set up a shoot with Made in Earth jewelry after attending their fashion week presentation. Francisco and I fell in love with the company, the jewelry, and the energy behind all the gemstones and their origins and mining processes.

In our shoot I had the opportunity to wear a lot of their jewelry which I just LOVED! Please see individual photo captions above for all their gemstone names and below for their meanings, healing and energetic properties as well as origins which is what makes each and every piece special. The craftsmanship from their original form to the jewelry they are fashioned into is just beautiful and I'm so proud to have gotten to work with this brand! Their pieces and colors are perfect for the upcoming spring season!

I can't wait to wear my new pieces (I am now the proud owner of rainbow pyrite earrings and an adventurine skull ring) and also coming up I'll be styling one of their ensembles for Francisco's Lincoln Center gala for Paul Taylor Dance Company.

Hi there!

With New York fashion week now wrapped and my feeling better from a bad cold, I finally have the time to recap for you! I kicked off the week by attending the Made in Earth showroom party in SoHo at their Elizabeth Street location. Upon meeting owner and founder Bunny Bedi (who is based in Australia) Francisco and I fell in love with the brand and the beautiful natural jewelry.

All of their gemstones are mined in different parts of the world. For example, one of my favorites in the images above is rainbow pyrite (the gold glittery one) which exclusively comes from Russia. See the image right above the jewelry where Bunny opened the rock to show us rainbow pyrite in its natural habitat. I am now the proud owner of rainbow pyrite earrings and an adventurine green skull ring. Not only do these stones look beautiful but they are expertly crafted and all have energetic properties that will help you in all areas of your relationships or your decision-making process. Stay tuned for a collab shoot we did the following week which I'll post next!

I was also able to attend @thenylonproject1's #itcanbeyou homelessness awareness benefit  at The Delancey where they featured an raffle, fashion show, celebrities, DJ, and more. Among the celebrities doing interviews were Miss NY, JWoww, and others. I always love attending a charity event and hope I can attend another Nylon Project event. I wore my Huminska emerald green velvet dress, Chanel ice cube bag, and H&M silver ankle booties. Metallics and velvet are big trends for fall and I just love them!

One show I had a blast attending was the Domingo Zapata #LovexFashionxArt presentation. He is a visual artist from Spain and in this fashion show there was a mixture of live painting (one of the models had a heart painted on her back by him) and flamenco dancing as well as a drag performer and grunge meets flamenco clothing look with Spanish and pop music. It was a lot of fun to attend! If you look closely in my photos you might spot Lindsey Lohan. Check out my Instagram @carolinasantosread for videos of the painting and flamenco performer. The show was at the Box in the Lower East Side, further adding to the grunge & rock and roll vibe.

The photos above are from the Nolcha accessories presentation featuring wonderful beauty and accessories collections. I really enjoyed meeting some of the designers and chatting with them about their brand. El Voyage had some fabulous shoes, handbags, and scarves as did Andraab which focuses on luxury cashmere scarves from the cashmere region in India. Cofi designs are all from Denver and they make leather goods either shoes or bags with patterns and textures that are just beautiful! I love their metallic boots and bags that feel so soft like suede but are in fact leather. Their floral cowboy boots are so gorgeous too!

I also loved talking to beauty brand Ecru New York and trying their lipstick and mascara. I will soon get to try out their hair products and I'll be sure to post about all the products they gave me to try! See my Instagram for a little video I did wearing their berry lipstick and mascara. So smooth and really lasts, and my lashes looked incredibly long!

All the fashion week shows and events I was able to attend (a Puma event prior to fashion week too, see my IG for more) were wonderful! I can't wait to pick up some new pieces for fall, but in the meantime I'm excited for Spring to be here soon with the weather starting to heat up in New York. There are so many fun jackets and shoes I can't wait to start wearing!

Stay tuned next week for a shoot Francisco and I did for Made in Earth where I was able to model some of their gorgeous jewelry!

In my Free People "Ribbons and Rows" dress, vintage belt and cowboy boots with stars, and tan tights. Photography by Francisco Graciano

Hi there!

I've always had a thing for Western chic outfit details, such as pairing a cowboy boot with a dress, but I became more fond of the style and lifestyle once I started dating Francisco a few years ago, since he's originally from San Antonio, Texas.

I'm not the only one into this style, however, it's a huge trend! How do I like to style my cowboy boots? With a dress, and a braid, or a flannel and jeans or even a peasant top and cutoff shorts. My new cowboy boots in this look were a vintage find (I love the metallic star detail and that they are shorter than the more common cowboy boot) that I paired with tights and my Free People "Ribbons and Rows" dress in royal blue. I love the neckline texture of the embroidery and beading. It looks Native American, and there's nothing more American than that. The slight ruffle detail on the sleeves and skirt of the dress are right on trend for Spring too!

Recently I've been seeing ruffles, stars, metallics, and country chic everywhere, and I wanted to piece together an outfit showcasing those trends. My belt is also vintage but the same gold buckle design is everywhere at the moment from smaller boutiques like 12th Tribe to larger department stores like Nordstrom.  There's also a similar boot to mine currently on sale on FreePeople.com

Giddy up for some weekend fun!

In my photos above I was inspired by some old Audrey Hepburn photographs I wanted to steal the look and feel from and re-create in a more modern way. I love the look of a classic Chanel-inspired tweed blazer with pockets, and Audrey's 1960s style is also so iconic in her skinny jeans, turtlenecks and loafers. So I combined the loafers and jeans with a classic silk bow and button-down blouse and topped it off with a white shimmery blazer in a Chanel-inspired look.

This Chanel-inspired blazer was an EBay find from a small boutique that hand made blazers, and they had so many beautiful ones to choose from! Many shops such as JCrew, Ann Taylor, Zara, and department stores like Bloomingdales have a variety to choose from.

My black silk blouse with bow front detail and a low neckline, and buttons in the front is by Rachael Zoe Collection, from a couple seasons back. It's one of my wardrobe staples that was worth investing in because I'll wear it again and again, so getting some high quality staple pieces is always worth it! The skinny jeans are Express and they fit me so well. I go through jeans so quickly that I stopped buying designer jeans (though if I go designer I LOVE Rag & Bone).

My accessories are my Rock Stud Valentino bag that I have been toting everywhere lately, accentuating the gold and black in my look, and a great pair of Steve Madden sparkly gold loafers. Metallics can be worn as a neutral to me, they are very much in fashion, and they are always a fun statement piece to add onto a more conservative look like this one. If you're thinking of shopping now is the time when many sales are happening so head to websites and stores and see what bargains you'll find! I am also a stylist so feel free to message me if you need wardrobe help, style advice, or personal shopping services.

Hi there,

I recently purchased some gorgeous things on the Nordstrom site, including the outfit in this post. I scored the Catherine Malandrino thigh high faux suede grey boots at a Nordstrom Rack.  The link here is for the black ones but the grey are available at Nordstrom Rack and they were a steal! I went with black and neutrals for this look beginning with the grey boots, and I paired the boots with my new Hue leatherette (aka vegan leather) black leggings from Nordstrom online as well as a Free People winter white sweater tunic with bell sleeves which is now on sale. It can be worn with any tank underneath and it so comfortable, cozy, and stylish.

In the winter I love to be warm and cozy as well as stylish, and this look utilizes different textures but with a dressy, elegant finish. The faux leather leggings even have a warm fuzzy lining inside too! Perfect for a date night like my recent date night to the movies with Francisco, when we went to see La La Land. I also wore my fuzzy free people winter white scarf for more layering and texture and my black long puffy coat from Guess.

I hope you're staying warm, cozy, and stylish!

Hi there!

While on holiday vacation in San Antonio, TX with Francisco's family we went for a night walk on the river walk to see the Christmas lights, and it was a fun background to shoot this look.

In the look above I styled a black mesh long t-shirt with stars on it from Forever 21 with a black tank underneath, and a vintage red pleated leather mini skirt, black tights, and my oldie but goodie Vince Camuto black biker boots with gold buckles. I topped off the look with my Valentino rock stud bag.

The star trend is such a fun look to wear on any item of clothing, and can have an all American feel. I went a little more edgy and playful in the mesh top with a pop of red leather in my skirt and black accessories. I also love it worn preppier or all American like on a pair of cowboy boots! Free People has an ankle bootie with stars on it in different colors that I'm lusting after right now!

I hope everyone is enjoying the snowy weather:)

Hi there!

Happy New Year! I hope you've all had a wonderful holiday break. I certainly did getting to see my family in CT and Francisco's in San Antonio, TX. While in Texas we took the time to photograph my new Huminska boutique "Huntress Green" "Greta" dress. I have been looking for the perfect velvet dress and this color is really flattering on most skin tones including mine. It hugs the body in the right places and I love the peekaboo detail just below the collarbone with the bow that can wrap around the neck or on the chest. The ruffle on the bottom adds a lovely silhouette too. Huminska is a beautiful little boutique in the East Village of Manhattan. All dresses are designed by the owner and made in the garment district. They are pricey but will last and are easy to wash. I fell in love with this dress and had to have it. It feels good to shop local too!

I styled the dress with my new grey Valentino rock stud flats, and my new  Furla purple gummy purse with gold chain strap, which my Godmother just gifted me from Paris. I am in love with my new little purse! It is very versatile and such a cute size. It can be dressed up or down and is perfect with a dress to go out. Even though the holidays are over there is plenty of opportunity to dress up and go out, and velvet is a perfect of the moment trend that can still be worn after the holidays.

Hi there!

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy first day of Chanukah everyone! In the spirit of the Holiday season I wanted to share my favorite holiday color combination: Gold and Black.

In the look above I styled my favorite Lauren by Ralph Lauren black blazer with gold RL crest over a Zara black turtleneck tucked into a Topshop gold sequin mini skirt. I finished the look with black tights and vintage black suede pumps, and my favorite gold python clutch from Coach. I also added a couple statement necklaces for some added sparkle!

Make sure you sparkle over this holiday season and ring in the New Year in style. I love an excuse to sparkle and shine and be festive. If you've been following along on my social media I've been snapping and Instagram story sharing some fun holiday moments and looks too.

Hi there!

I am loving mala beads right now. Not just because they are a trend (though that certainly is the case) but because as someone who practices meditation and yoga as well as going to a Buddhist meditation center regularly, they are part of my lifestyle and aesthetic. Another thing I love about Buddhism is that they are completely inclusive and any religion is welcome. It is more than religion, and the jewelry is beautiful.

The company I partnered with is Great Eastern Imports, out of Thailand. I was originally going to go to Thailand with Francisco in September but with the Thai King's passing the dance festival Francisco was going to be performing at was cancelled and we weren't able to go, since his schedule was filled up quickly with rehearsal instead and then the rest of their Asia tour (and my own shedule and travels proved difficult to rearrange). So in the end we still partnered with this great company but by mail instead.

The pieces above are all described in more detail in the captions so you can see what pieces specifically I, my friend Samantha, or Francisco are wearing if you want to purchase those items. I should mention they typically sell wholesale out of their website to other retailers but for individual purchases they have an Etsy shop too! They also have an array of other beautiful pieces so I encourage you to visit their site and look through.

With the holidays approaching, these make great gifts! I can't wait to wear some of these pieces with my party outfits either.  They are not only beautiful but a great reminder to slow down and take time for yourself during this hectic holiday season.

Hi there!

I was recently invited to the first Conscious Dinner in NYC (they have had them in different cities such as LA before, but will be starting them in NY now as well) last week and it was such a fun event I thought it would be fun to blog about it...and what I wore, of course.

The event was hosted by Integral Fitness and held at Tournesol Wellness, a space for holistic wellness including primary care benefits of everything from Reike practitioners to Herbologists, Yoga and Meditation, etc.  As we checked into the event we went into the kitchen of the space downstairs and had a wonderful vegan meal including kombucha and coconut water stations, and a tea and herbal liquid elixir station where I bought some mushroom immunity and some sleep tea.

Afterwords we stepped upstairs and signed up for different rooms and experiences.  Francisco and I and my friend Lindsey (who has an awesome new blog all about sustainable clothing) experienced everything from an improv room to Reike, Herbology, and a talk about being our truest selves.  The other rooms also included astrological readings and sound therapy.  It was so much fun!

My outfit incorporated a huge trend at the moment: velvet.  In these Free People pants I always feel like a rockstar.  I styled them with a silky H&M blouse and Free People silver rose and red suede tassel bolo tie which also looks great as a choker, and my Aldo studded booties I wear all the time.  My new Rock Stud Valentino purse rounded out the outfit.  It was a beautiful night for velvet since it is such a cozy fabric especially for the holiday season, and it feels festive for parties.  Since this was a more casual party, velvet pants and a top felt just right.  I also wear it in dresses, shorts, and tops.  How do you wear it?

Bows: Uptown VS Downtown

Hi there!

I hope everyone is enjoying their "Turkey Hangover Day" aka Black Friday. I got lots of Christmas shopping done today and am feeling accomplished.

You may have noticed bows or ties popping up on shirt collars and all over the place.  I challenged myself to style this two ways: Uptown vs Downtown (NYC). For those of you non New Yorkers, uptown chic is usually a little more preppy and classic whereas downtown has more of a bohemian or rock and roll vibe.

In the looks above I styled a free people velvet bow on a gold chain over a JCrew button up collared sleeveless off white silk blouse which I tucked into a vintage silk pink and black striped skirt. I completed the look with tights, black stiletto Christian Louboutin pumps, my new Valentino rock stud bag, and my Guess puffy coat. It's a put together Gossip Girl style look which is chic and definitely preppy, like a schoolgirl who's grown up.

In the below looks I styled a crisp white Ralph Lauren oxford shirt with high neck collar and attached big bow with my ripped H&M high-waisted skinny jeans, Aldo studded booties, and  Rebecca Minkoff black fringe bag.  In the other photo I also added a studded tweed jacket over the blouse which I scored at H&M years ago. I posed on the fire escape for a completion to the edgier version of the bow shirt trend.

So there are many ways to wear this bow trend, two of which I had a blast putting together and wearing! The classic white shirt will remain a closet staple, but it can always receive updates.

Carolina
